AVON PARK AIR FORCE RANGE
MILITARY INSTALLATION RESILIENCY REVIEW WORKSHOP
Avon Park, FL The Central Florida Regional Planning Council will facilitate a Military Installation Resiliency Review (MIRR) workshop for the Avon Park Air Force Range (APAFR) and local communities. This work is funded through a Department of Defense Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation MIRR Grant.
The Department of Defense has expressed concern regarding damaging impacts of natural and man-made hazards and threats by increasing frequency and magnitude of tropical storms, flooding, and extreme rainfall to military operations and communities supporting them. The APAFR is dependent upon critical infrastructure provided by the community including transportation infrastructure and utilities including potable water, wastewater, natural gas and electricity. This project will improve the integration of central Floridas primary military installation while strengthening military-civilian engagement.
The workshop will introduce the project to community stakeholders, identify steering and technical advisory committee members, conduct a visioning session for future resilience in communities surrounding the APAFR by identifying shocks, stresses, gaps, opportunities, and top priorities, and tour the areas of concern within the APAFR. Presenters from utilities and local government will share resiliency initiatives. Resiliency initiatives identified through the MIRR may be eligible for implementation funding opportunities.
The meeting is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Central Florida Regional Planning Council office at (863) 534-7130.
