NOTICE OF HEARING TO IMPOSE AND PROVIDE FOR
COLLECTION OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICE SPECIAL ASSESSMENTS
Notice is hereby given that the County Commission of Okeechobee County will conduct apublic hearing to consider the imposition of annual emergency medical service special assessmentsfor the provision of emergency medical services, programs, and facilities within the incorporatedand unincorporated area of Okeechobee County that constitutes the Okeechobee County MunicipalService Benefit Unit for Emergency Medical Services.
The hearing will be held at 9:00 a.m., on August 22, 2024, in the Commission Chambers,Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 NW 2nd Street, Okeechobee, Florida, for the purpose ofreceiving public comment on the proposed assessments. All affected property owners have a rightto appear at the hearing and to file written objections with the County Commission within 20 daysof this notice. If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the County Commission withrespect to any matter considered at the hearing, such person will need a record of the proceedingsand may need to ensure that a verbatim record is made, including the testimony and evidence uponwhich the appeal is to be made. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, personsneeding a special accommodation or an interpreter to participate in this proceeding should contactthe County Administrators Office at (863) 763-6441, at least 48 hours prior to the date of thehearing.
The assessments for each parcel of residential use property will be based upon the totalnumber of dwelling units attributed to that parcel.
Copies of the Emergency Medical Service Assessment Ordinance, the Initial AssessmentResolution, the Final Assessment Resolution, the proposed Annual Rate Resolution for the FiscalYear beginning October 1, 2024, and the updated Assessment Roll are available for inspection atthe office of the County Administrator located at 304 NW 2nd Street, Room 103, Okeechobee,Florida.
The assessments will be collected on the ad valorem tax bill to be mailed in November2024, as authorized by Section 197.3632, Florida Statutes. Failure to pay the assessments willcause a tax certificate to be issued against the property which may result in a loss of title.
