HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY PUBLIC NOTICE
Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR)
On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian barreled through Florida, wreaking havoc in its path, leaving significant damage in its wake. To assist in recovery efforts, the federal government allocated funding to various agencies. Among them, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced the availability of $2.7 billion for the state of Florida through the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program. These funds are aimed toward supporting long-term resiliency and mitigation efforts following Hurricane Ian and in preparation of future storms that may impact the state. The Florida Department of Commerce has been tasked with administering these funds for the purpose of funding various mitigation activities related to disaster relief. Hillsborough County was awarded a grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agencys Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP). The County intends to apply for the CDBG-DR funds to utilize them for the local match that is required pursuant to the HMGP funding award.
The County proposes to request funds for the Valrico Reclaimed Water Generator, which will enable Hillsborough County to maintain its reclaimed water operations during all weather events without any risk to the disruption of power. The generator will be installed at the Valrico Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, located at 1167 N. Dover Rd, Dover, FL 33527. The estimated cost of the project is $549,973.68. The CDBG-DR funds is estimated at $137,493.42.
Hillsborough County does not anticipate that anyone will be displaced because of the CDBG-DR funded activities proposed above.
