NOTICE OF CONSIDERATION OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE OKEECHOBEE COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
NOTICE: A PUBLIC HEARING will be held before the Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the Judge William L. Hendry Courtroom, Room 270, Historic Okeechobee County Courthouse, 304 NW 2nd Street, Okeechobee, Florida. The purpose of the public hearing is to consider an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan of Okeechobee County, Florida and to consider authorizing transmittal of the amendment to the Florida Department of Commerce
The proposed amendment to the comprehensive plan is to change approximately 150 acres from the Rural Estate future land use classification to the Lazy Seven Rural Activity Center future land use classification with a maximum density of 1 residential unit per 2 acres. Following the public hearing, the Board of County Commissioners will consider transmittal of the proposed comprehensive plan amendment to the state reviewing agencies.
The property owner is John F. Hales, as Trustee of the Norman and Carol Hales Grandchildrens Trust for Audra Hales Madrigal UAD November 19, 2004. The applicant is Audra Hales Madrigal. The property is located on SW 87th Terrace, approximately one-half mile south of State Road 70 West and just west of Lazy Seven Estates, and is further described as follows:

A SECOND PUBLIC HEARING to consider the proposed amendment to the comprehensive plan will be held before the Board of County Commissioners and noticed as required by state law.
The title of the proposed ordinance is:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, FLORIDA AMENDING THE OKEECHOBEE COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL TO THE STATE LAND PLANNING AGENCY; PROVIDING A CONFLICTS CLAUSE AND SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; PROVIDING FOR CODIFICATION; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
A copy of the proposed ordinance shall be available for inspection by the public during normal business hours at the Okeechobee County Community Development Department, 1700 NW 9th Avenue, Suite A, Okeechobee, Florida, 34972. Interested parties may appear at the meeting and be heard with respect to the proposed ordinance and may submit written comments to the Community Development Department prior to the hearing.
Any person deciding to appeal any decision by the Board of County Commissioners with respect to any matter considered at a meeting or hearing will need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made and that the record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal will be based. County Clerk and Community Development tapes are for the sole purpose of backup for official records of the County Clerk and of the Community Development Department.
